Adorned with murals by some of the world’s most celebrated street artists, Mysterton is a landmark Victorian mansion on St Kilda Hill functioning as both a family home and living art gallery.

Built in 1882 on the historic Charnwood Estate and once Melbourne’s principal Buddhist ashram, the home carries a rare sense of calm. Today, works by artists including Rone, Adnate, Kid Zoom and Vexta enrich its grand Italianate interiors.

While the facade is all old-world elegance, what unfolds beyond the front door is a masterful blend of old and new, proportions and detailing that define the era. Natural light pours through the grand entry hall with its soaring clerestory, leading to a formal dining room and a living room with a significant black Belgian marble fireplace and original decorative ceiling. As you ascend the broad staircase with its stained-glass feature window, the top floor provides five bedrooms (one with a treetop balcony and custom dressing room) and two bathrooms. At the rear of the top floor is a huge separate west-facing living room with a 5m-high ceiling that overlooks the garden.
